How does it perform on the Sig Sauer P220? Check today’s video to see (hear?) for yourself. Today on TFBTV, Ryan looks at Sig Sauer’s 3D Printed Titanium Silencer, the MODX45. Be safe and we’ll see you here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday. The SIG Sauer MODX-9 gets two thumbs up from me. It includes two pistons and a fixed barrel spacer when other manufacturers aren’t including any pistons at all.

Overall, this is a fun suppressor that is very quiet, modular, light and is made with next-generation manufacturing processes. The coating/surface treatment scratched a bit easier than I would have liked, but it’s not a dealbreaker. I think there is still some room for additional reductions at the expense of adding about two inches. I do wish that SIG had designed this suppressor with nine baffles instead of seven.
SIG SAUER 22 SRDX SUPPRESSOR TAKEDOWN PORTABLE
This setup is quiet enough to still be fun, but short and light enough to be portable and concealable. The sweet spot between length and suppression is four baffles. I still recommend shooting all centerfire rounds with hearing protection. Somewhere between baffles four and five the “hearing safe” designation drops off. Removing one baffle section was slightly noticeable, but successive shortening made things louder quickly. Each MODX suppressor includes the most popular metric and metric piston for its given caliber. The MODX suppressors feature 21 points of impact adjustment and come with a fixed barrel spacer for carbine use. The MODX-9 provides class-leading sound performance and can be easily disassembled and reconfigured with fewer baffles when your priority is size over sound. The newest pistol suppressor line from SIG SAUER features completely modular and configurable titanium baffles for the ultimate, light-weight performance that allows the user to personalize their suppressor for overall length, weight, and sound. SILENCER SATURDAY #181: SIG Sauer MODX-9 Magic Modular Muffler The thin walls between the points look as if they would bend or break if they had been milled. While the SIG MODX-9 doesn’t appear to have any internal designs that are only capable with additive manufacturing processes, the external surfaces that are used for take-down tool friction points may be difficult with traditional methods like milling. Engineers are not limited by previous cutting tolerances. Then comes the internal designs – 3D printed parts can have geometries that are almost impossible to create with a spinning tool. The fact is, the are usually stronger than turned parts. Most people simply couldn’t believe that melted powdered titanium or inconnel would be as strong as their machined counterparts. When I first started writing about additive manufacturing processes being used to make suppressors, the comments were laced with pitchforks and torches level of disbelief. SILENCER SATURDAY #181: SIG Sauer MODX-9 – Magic Modular Mufflerīut the real question is if these processes are worth the investment to manufacture firearm suppressors when multi-axis milling machines are capable of cranking out parts far faster. The gun featured in today’s episode: FN 509 Compact Tactical Surely those need to be able to withstand a little heat and pressure. Not only that, but the resulting parts are very strong and durable (some NASA rocket motors are made using additive manufacturing by way of laser sintering). But the end result are designs that can’t be created with traditional machining. The reason it doesn’t have a huge foothold at the moment is cost and time – between the metal being sintered, the machinery, and the power requirements, these processes are complex. This week we take away one millimeter to honor the silencer gods and check out the SIG Sauer MODX-9 modular, titanium, 3D printed, 9mm suppressor. Last week we held our breath and suppressed some full-power 10mm rounds. Hello everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the YHM R9 multi-caliber suppressor.
